Nobel Biocare vs Straumann vs Osstem implants: which is right for you?
Nobel Biocare, Straumann, and Osstem implants compared for Australian patients. Prices at Picasso Dental Clinic Vietnam in AUD, clinical use cases, and how to choose.
Most patients do not need to specify an implant brand. Dr. Tran Thanh Phong, Head of Implantology at Picasso, recommends the appropriate system after reviewing your CBCT scan. Osstem is suitable for most standard cases at AUD 1,415 combo. Nobel Biocare and Straumann are premium systems at AUD 2,545 combo, recommended for complex anatomy, All-on-4, or immediate loading cases. Straumann BLX at AUD 2,545 is suited to immediate loading protocols.

Clinical case matching — which brand for which patient
Osstem — most patients
- Single or multiple tooth replacement in standard bone
- Good bone volume and density
- No need for immediate loading
- Budget-conscious patients who want a proven system without the premium markup
Osstem’s 15-year survival data is robust. For a 45-year-old Australian with good bone having 1–3 standard implants, Osstem is appropriate.
Nobel Biocare — complex cases and All-on-4
- All-on-4 and All-on-6 full arch cases (Nobel Biocare is the system that originated All-on-4)
- Patients with compromised bone requiring angled implant placement
- Cases where immediate loading is planned
- Patients who want the longest published clinical track record
Straumann BLX — immediate loading and single-trip protocol
- Selected patients where a single-trip protocol is clinically viable
- Soft bone cases where maximum primary stability is needed
- Short treatment windows (cannot return for Trip 2)
Straumann BLX’s tapered design generates high insertion torque, which is the key requirement for immediate provisional loading. Not all patients are candidates — bone volume and density must be adequate.
What “immediate loading” means for Australian patients
Normally implants require 3–6 months of osseointegration before a permanent crown is placed (two trips). With Straumann BLX and sufficient primary stability, a provisional crown may be placed on the same day as the implant — completing treatment in a single trip.
This is not possible in all cases. Picasso’s CBCT assessment determines eligibility. If your bone meets the criteria, a single-trip protocol saves you 5–7 days of annual leave and a second return flight from Australia.
Australian private benchmark prices
| Brand | Australian private clinic (AUD) | Picasso Vietnam (AUD) |
|---|---|---|
| Generic / unnamed | AUD 4,000 – AUD 5,000 | — |
| Osstem | AUD 4,500 – AUD 5,500 | AUD 1,415 |
| Nobel Biocare | AUD 6,500 – AUD 8,000 | AUD 2,545 |
| Straumann | AUD 6,500 – AUD 9,000 | AUD 2,545 |
Prices above are total combo (fixture + abutment + crown). Australian private adds consultation, CBCT (AUD 250–500), and often separate lab fees.
What to ask when comparing implant quotes
- Is this the fixture price only, or does it include abutment and crown?
- Which specific brand? (Not “Korean” or “premium” — the exact brand name)
- Is there peer-reviewed clinical literature for this brand?
- What is the 10-year survival rate in published data?
- Is the crown Emax, zirconia, or PFM?
A transparent clinic can answer all five.
All-on-4 brand recommendation at Picasso
For All-on-4, Picasso’s clinical recommendation is Nobel Biocare or Straumann — not Osstem — because:
- All-on-4 requires immediate provisional loading (a full bridge placed same day)
- The consequence of fixture failure at the implant level means replacing the entire bridge
- Nobel Biocare invented the All-on-4 protocol; its implant geometry is engineered for the angled posterior placement the technique requires
Osstem All-on-4 is available and clinically appropriate, but for a full-arch case where Australians are investing AUD 7,068–12,436 plus two return flights, the premium Nobel/Straumann system is generally recommended.
