What to eat after veneers in Vietnam: Da Nang food guide

What you can eat after getting veneers in Da Nang — a day-by-day diet guide covering the first 48 hours and beyond, with Vietnamese food recommendations for Australian patients.

Veneers have much lighter diet restrictions than implants. For the first 48 hours avoid very hard, crunchy, sticky, and extremely hot or cold foods. After 48 hours you can eat mostly normally, though you should avoid biting into very hard objects indefinitely. Vietnamese cuisine is naturally suited to post-veneer eating, with plenty of soft noodle soups, congee, and fruit available everywhere in Da Nang.

Eating during each phase of the veneer trip

Phase 1: Day 1–2 (consultation and wax-up)

No restrictions. Eat and drink normally. Use these days to try Da Nang’s restaurant scene before any restrictions apply.

Phase 2: Day 3 (preparation day — temporaries placed)

After tooth preparation and temporary placement, some sensitivity is normal for 24–48 hours. Recommendations:

  • Avoid temperature extremes — very hot soups and cold ice drinks can cause sensitivity through the temporaries
  • Eat on the back teeth where possible for the first day
  • Soft food is comfortable even if not strictly required

Phase 3: Days 4–10 (lab fabrication days — temporaries worn)

Temporaries are composite resin. Eat freely with these caveats:

SafeAvoid
Pho, cháo, soft noodlesHard toffee, caramel, sticky sweets
Steamed fish and riceHard crusts (baguette end)
Eggs any styleChewing gum
TofuBiting into whole apples
Ripe mango, banana, papayaRaw carrot sticks
Cooked vegetablesExtremely hard bread

Phase 4: Day 11–13 (try-in and final bonding)

After try-in, no restrictions. After final bonding: avoid very hard and sticky foods for 24 hours while the resin reaches full set.

Permanent restrictions (after bonding)

  • Do not bite hard objects with the veneer edge: ice, bottle caps, hard bread crusts
  • Do not chew fingernails or pens habitually
  • Use a nightguard if you grind (Picasso can provide one)
  • Cut hard fruit (apple, pear) into slices rather than biting in

Everything else — coffee, wine, curry, spicy food, steak — is fine with final Emax veneers.

Best Vietnamese foods to eat during your veneer trip

Great for all phases (including temporary phase)

  • Cháo (rice congee) — endlessly customisable; plain, fish, or chicken
  • Phở — soft noodles, rich broth; order without hard toppings
  • Bánh cuốn (steamed rice rolls) — extremely soft; available for breakfast
  • Bún bò Huế — spicy noodle soup; the soft noodles and meat are fine
  • Gỏi cuốn (fresh spring rolls) — the rice paper is soft; skip the peanut brittle dipping element
  • Com tấm (broken rice with steamed egg and soft protein)
  • Sinh tố (fresh fruit smoothies) — banana, papaya, avocado

Save for after final bonding

  • Bánh mì (French-style sandwich) — the crust is fine after bonding; be gentle in the first week
  • Mì quảng with crispy rice crackers (bánh đa) — the crackers are hard; skip them during temporary phase

Da Nang restaurant recommendations

Near Picasso Dental Clinic (Đống Đa branch):

  • My Khe Beach — 10 minutes by Grab; dozens of fresh seafood restaurants (grilled fish, prawns, crab — all soft when cooked)
  • Bà Dương restaurant on the river — cháo cá (fish congee) is a Da Nang specialty
  • Con Market (Chợ Cồn) — open-air market stalls serving cháo and phở from 6am; AUD 1–2 per bowl

Drinks after veneers

All drinks are fine after 48 hours with final veneers. During the first 24 hours post-bonding:

  • Avoid very hot and very cold beverages (sensitivity from bonding agents)
  • Coffee and tea are fine — they do not stain Emax ceramic
  • Alcohol is fine after 24 hours

Australian patients — notes for the flight home

Australian patients typically fly home 1–2 days after final bonding. On the 8–9 hour flight:

  • Eat normally from the airline meal (no restrictions once bonding has set for 24+ hours)
  • Avoid the very hard bread rolls if within 48 hours of bonding
  • Bring a dental mirror to check margins in the airport bathroom if you are concerned — this is normal caution, not a sign of a problem

If anything feels wrong on the flight — a veneer has come loose, bite feels high — contact Picasso on arrival home. Picasso’s SmileCare warranty covers re-cementation and adjustments.
