What if something goes wrong after dental treatment abroad?

Step-by-step guide for Australian patients if complications arise after Picasso Dental Clinic treatment in Vietnam — triage, warranty claims, and working with your Australian dentist.

If something goes wrong after dental treatment abroad, Australian patients should contact Picasso's coordinator immediately, open a warranty review, see their local dentist for urgent care, and document everything before approving outside repair.

This page is for Australian patients who have noticed something concerning after returning home from Picasso Dental Clinic. It covers the triage process, how to open a warranty review, and how to work with your Australian dentist.

Severity triage — what action to take first

LevelExamplesAction
EmergencyDifficulty breathing, severe spreading facial swelling, uncontrolled bleeding, fever with swelling toward the neckCall 000 and go to hospital emergency — then inform Picasso
Urgent dentalSevere pain, temp crown off, implant site bleeding at day 3+, significant bite changeBook Australian dentist within 24 hours AND message Picasso coordinator
Non-urgentChipped veneer, mild sensitivity, slight bite asymmetryMessage Picasso coordinator; book Australian dentist review within 2 weeks

When in doubt, treat as urgent. Early intervention prevents minor issues from becoming major ones.

First 72 hours at home — the checklist

  1. Take photos and a short video — good light, clear angles, show the problem area
  2. Write down the timeline — when you first noticed, what it feels like, whether anything changed
  3. Message your Picasso coordinator via WhatsApp (+84 989 067 888) or email ([email protected]) — include photos, booking ID, symptoms
  4. Do not let a non-dental person adjust ceramics — this will cause more damage
  5. Open a warranty review if not already done — see /warranty/

Warranty claim pathway

  1. Submit photos, symptoms, and Australian dentist notes to Picasso
  2. Picasso completes remote clinical review (typically 24–72 hours)
  3. Team advises: remote resolution, local repair with written instructions, or return visit
  4. If a return visit is approved and flight support applies, written approval is issued
  5. Book travel only after written approval — see /warranty/travel-reimbursement/

Working with your Australian dentist

Bring the following to any Australian dental appointment:

  • OPG or CBCT from Picasso (request a copy if you did not receive one)
  • Implant brand card or fixture documentation (included in your discharge pack)
  • Treatment summary from Picasso
  • Materials sheet (ceramic type, shade code, implant brand)

Most AHPRA-registered dentists are comfortable assessing, X-raying, and monitoring overseas dental work when they have proper records. The information Picasso provides is designed to give your Australian dentist what they need.

Emergency stabilisation — pain relief, temporary rebonding, antibiotics — by your Australian dentist is fine and does not affect your warranty. Permanent repair or replacement by another dentist without prior Picasso approval can complicate or void the claim, so contact Picasso before authorising non-emergency work.

Prevention is still the best strategy

For patients still in the planning phase:

  • Follow aftercare instructions exactly — see /aftercare/
  • Wear your night guard every night if prescribed
  • Do not eat hard food on temporary crowns or healing implants
  • Attend your scheduled Australian follow-up at 6 weeks
